This prompt comes from the ever resourceful “The Broke and Bookish”. Each week there is a different theme! It’s a fun way for bloggers to connect and readers to get to know us better! It helps the writing community get a little extra promotion for their work as well as give some pretty great intel to readers looking for a new read!
The original prompt is below:
Ten Childhood Characters You’d Love To Revisit As Adults (ie a novella or something to see what they grew up to be) — you could always just pick YA characters you’ve read recently you wouldn’t mind revisiting in 10 years or so. Or you could pick 10 characters and guess what you think they’d be doing in 10 years or 20 years. OR you could go the other way and wish for coming of age stories for adult characters you love.
My spin on it is “Who were the characters in the time before the story began”.
1: Oonak from “The Truth Beyond the Sky”. We know from the book that he has traveled to many planets. I want to know that story. Where did he go? What did he see? What about his home planet? Also, how did he come about Navika? Was the ship built for him? I have a ton of questions about him.
2: Ilgard from “The Sunset Lands Beyond” trilogy. This man is so intriguing! How did he come to command over all the others? What was his life like growing up?
3: Wanderer from “The Host”. She’s been to an incredible amount of planets. I want to know way more than the little snippets that were given in the story.
4: Effie Trinket from “The Hunger Games”. What was she like growing up? How did she end up as an escort for the games?
5: Haymitch Abernathy from “The Hunger Games”. What I am most interested in is how he interacted with the kids he had to mentor for all those hunger games before Katniss.
6: Neil from “Walk In The Flesh”. The book hints to him being kind of a shitty guy before he became a cyborg. How did that happen? What about the wife he lost? How did they come to marry and what happened?
7: K’nal from “Sol of the Coliseum”. We get little snippets about who he was and his life but I want to know more about his species, his people and how he ended up fighting in the Coliseum.
8: Stirling from “In The Shadow Of The Lynx”. He grew up with a father that had a serious chip on his shoulder. Everyone feared him and everyone respected him. I want that story!
That’s all I can think of for now. I’m always reading new books and I’m sure I will have more characters to add to this list before too long.
